Biodiversity & Nature Conservation

We study patterns of species richness and biodiversity across aquatic environmental gradients, including biodiversity patterns across trophic levels. We also focus on conservation genetics and the dynamics of extinction/recolonization. We contribute to restoration ecology, fisheries management and sustainable management of shallow standing and running waters,

  • Biodiversity of ponds and shallow lakes in relation to environmental gradients and land use
  • Restoration ecology of shallow water bodies
  • Sustainable management of tropical and subtropical lakes and reservoirs
  • Reconstruction of dynamics of extinction and recolonization
  • Development, evaluation and use of indexes of biotic integrity
